Paul Basagoitia: A Freeride Icon Redefining Possibility
Hailing from Reno, NV, Paul Basagoitia began his journey on two wheels racing BMX as a kid. He exploded onto the mountain bike scene in 2010 by winning Crankworx Whistler’s Joyride competition — without a sponsor and without even owning a mountain bike.
From that breakout moment, Paul became a fixture in the freeride and slopestyle world, claiming podiums and partnering with many of the sport’s top brands. But in October 2015, his life changed forever after a devastating crash at Red Bull Rampage left him paralyzed from the waist down.
What followed wasn’t an ending — but the start of a powerful new chapter. Paul’s recovery, chronicled in the acclaimed HBO documentary Any One of Us, is a testament to resilience, grit, and the will to live fully, no matter the odds.
Today, Paul is focused on pushing the limits of what’s possible post-injury — from walking again to completing an Ironman — and inspiring others to take charge of their own health, mobility, and purpose-driven lives.
